Diary
Under the paper lanterns of Nagasaki, Masumi Steel once stood tall, a blade retired but a wallet still fat with the last of his samurai severance, until Ikari sauntered up grinning like a fox who'd found the henhouse unlocked. One "sure thing" tip about a floor sweep later, Masumi watched his savings evaporate faster than sake at a funeral, and he laughed about it then because laughing was cheaper than crying. Now he tells the story at every dojo bonfire with a wink, swearing he's wiser, swearing he'd never fall for it twice, all while eyeing the betting pool like a moth eyes a very expensive flame. The shame sits in him quiet as a debt collector, but Masumi just grins wider, because a man with nothing left to lose has nothing left to hide either. Discipline, he figures, is just what you call regret before it happens, and he's already three drinks past caring which order they come in.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
It's been that kind of day. The Bloody Mess clothing doesn't mean the fighter lost — it means they were in it deep enough that cleanliness became irrelevant.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Named for the legendary fighter. The Red Heihachi fighters carry that name's weight in every match and find it light.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
