Diary
Masumi Steel used to arrange his katana, his sandals, his whole disciplined little universe before sunrise like a proper samurai, but these days the only thing he arranges is his thoughts, and even that goes sideways. On one particularly sweltering afternoon, sweating through his robe like he'd aped into a sauna position, he decided to finally meditate his scattered brain into some kind of order, cross-legged on the floor, candle lit, very zen, very serious. Somewhere between counting his breaths and counting his regrets he got so unnervingly turned on by the sheer clarity of the moment that he lost every last drop of self-esteem right there on the tatami, grinning the whole time like it was a feature, not a bug. He tells the boys at the dojo it was a spiritual awakening, bluffing with a straight face while quietly rugged by his own libido, insisting discipline is still the plan, just, you know, tomorrow, after this bowl of weed and maybe a nap. Nothing left to lose, he says, laughing at the ceiling, because a man who's already lost his floor has nowhere left to fall but sideways into more chaos.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Explicit in every sense. The Fuck You Kimono fighters made a communication choice and wore it. No ambiguity. No apology.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
Used and not cleaned. The Bloody Nunchucks fighters are efficient — cleaning was someone else's job and they had the next fight to prepare for.
