Diary
Masumi Steel used to walk into any room grinning like he'd already won the bet, back when his sword hand was steadier than his sake hand, back when 'discipline' wasn't a joke he told at his own expense. Then came the night in the gambling house, dice hot, pride hotter, and Azuma dismantled him in front of half the dojo's old regulars while Masumi bluffed his way through a hand he never had. He laughed it off then, laughs it off now, tells anyone who'll listen that he's 'rebuilding his reputation, one terrible decision at a time,' as if reputation were something you could ape back into with enough bravado and borrowed chips. Every morning he swears he'll wake at dawn, meditate, spar clean, and every morning he's face down on the mats by noon, nursing a hangover and grinning through it like the joke's on purpose. He's got nothing left to lose and everything to prove, and somewhere between the floor and the next reckless wager, Masumi Steel is almost, almost becoming disciplined again.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The dragon lives on the body now. The Dragon Head Tattoo fighters carry their ambition on the surface — it's not hidden, and it's not a metaphor.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
