Between shivers he still grinned, telling anyone who'd listen that a real samurai doesn't get sick, he just chooses violence at a discount, and that this was merely his body aping into a new meta of suffering. His old sensei's discipline whispers to him from somewhere far off, reminding him fevers are meant to be sweated through with quiet resolve, not narrated like a stand-up bit between hits off a joint someone smuggled into his sickroom for morale. Weeks later, still pale, still coughing, still absolutely convinced he's winning, Masumi limps back toward the dojo floor insisting he's recovering
