Diary
Masumi Steel used to swear his blade only came out for honor, but honor got expensive and the garden that afternoon didn't care about his excuses, not with his old friend sweating over a scroll of secrets and a monkey screeching bloody murder from the koi pond wall. He'd meant to just wave the sword around for effect, a little theater to grease the blackmail along, but the monkey lunged for his sake cup and Masumi's reflexes, forged in dojo drills he hasn't touched in years, did the rest before his brain could vote against it. One dead monkey, one thoroughly extorted friend, and zero percent of the discipline he used to pride himself on, that's the ledger he's been squinting at ever since. These days he tells everyone he's retired from that life, hung up the blade, meditates now, does the whole samurai-calm bit, except his idea of meditation is three bong rips and staring at chart lines that dumped harder than his reputation. He grins about it anyway, because what else do you do when the garden's long gone quiet and the only thing left standing is you, rugged by your own hands and somehow still smiling like it was all part of the plan.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
