Diary
Masumi Steel used to be the kind of samurai who could recite the bushido code backward and mean every syllable, but that was before he decided a dirt-floor wedding to a geisha he'd known for exactly one sake-soaked evening was the height of romantic discipline. Mid-vow, some jealous rival or maybe just a guy having a bad day put a blade clean through his side, and Masumi, ever the showman, tried to finish saying "I do" before he hit the ground, grinning the whole way down like it was part of the ceremony. He walks a little crooked now, one hand always ghosting toward the old scar, but he'll tell anyone who asks that he's not broken, he's just been "structurally remixed." Every morning he swears he's getting back to the old ways, meditation, cold water, sword drills at dawn, and every morning he ends up aped into some floor-price nonsense on his phone before the incense even finishes burning. Rugged in love, rugged in blade, rugged in every discipline he's ever tried to hold onto, and somehow still grinning wide enough to make the whole disaster look like a flex.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
