Diary
Masumi Steel used to grin like the sun owed him money, back before the ritual of trimming cherry blossoms at sunset turned him into some kind of accidental monk. Petals falling slow, blade moving slower, he'd tell you it was meditation, but really he was just stalling so he wouldn't have to check his wallet after another floor got rugged from under him. He swears the discipline stuck, that he's humble now, reformed, practically a sensei, then he laughs so hard mid-sentence you catch the old degen leaking through the seams. Every dusk he still shows up with the shears and a half-lit blunt, promising himself tonight's the night he trims with pure zen focus, and every night he ends up chasing petals like they owe him a rebate. Cheerful, humbled, still broke, still smiling, Masumi calls that balance, and honestly the cherry trees seem to agree.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
After. The Messy fighters' hair tells you what happened — not what they planned, but what they went through.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
