Down in the Fight Pits, some grinning stranger's hand found Masumi Steel's ribs mid-scramble and his honor, what little survived the sake and the rugged bets, sat up and asked him a very rude question. He answered it with a grin instead of a blade, because somewhere between the samurai code and the current buffet of vice he'd traded discipline for dopamine and never quite gotten a refund. Worse, the shame arrived a half second behind something warmer, something that made his knees weak and his bluffing voice crack, and he laughed it off like he laughs off everything, calling it a floor test for his composure. His old sensei would have wept; Masumi just adjusted his gi, told the crowd he meant to do that, and vowed, again, to get serious tomorrow. Tomorrow, as always, was fully aped into someone else's problem.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
