Diary
Masumi Steel used to be the kind of samurai who could hold a stance for six hours without blinking, but somewhere between the last war and last Tuesday he became the guy laughing so hard in the men's pleasure house that his nipples straight up started bleeding, and honestly, worth it. Haru was cackling next to him, pointing, absolutely no help, and Masumi just grinned through the sting like a lunatic who mistook agony for a personality trait. He swears, hand over bandaged chest, that this is rock bottom, that tomorrow he starts the self-improvement arc, meditation at dawn, katas at dusk, floor prices be damned. Tomorrow arrives and he's back at the same house, same Haru, laughing so hard he nearly rips the gauze clean off, whispering to himself that discipline is just a state of mind he's choosing not to be in right now. Somewhere his old sensei is rolling in his grave, and Masumi, bleeding and grinning, raises an imaginary cup to the man and says the ancestors would understand, probably, maybe, whatever.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
War color, formal cut. The Red Warrior Kimono fighters dressed for the battle they expected and arrived at the one they got.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Nothing hidden. No armor above the neck. The Bald fighters face everything without cover and consider this the only honest approach.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
