Diary
Masumi Steel had sworn, for maybe the ninth time that month, that this would be the night he found his discipline again, and then Ikari made a crack about his footwork inside the pleasure house at Yoshiwara and the whole vow got rugged in about four seconds flat. Sake cups went flying, some poor geisha's shamisen nearly became collateral damage, and Masumi threw a haymaker so reckless it caught a support beam instead of Ikari's jaw, snapping his elbow with a pop the whole room heard over the music. He just laughed, cradling the arm like it was a winning hand, grinning through the pain and telling everyone who'd listen that he'd never felt more alive since the wars ended and left him with nothing but bad habits and worse decisions. Ikari offered, half sincere, to help him set the bone properly, and Masumi waved him off with his good hand, insisting he'd figure discipline out tomorrow, right after one more round. The elbow healed crooked, the story got told crooked too, growing an inch of glory every time he retold it at the tables, and somewhere underneath the swagger he still ached, quietly, for the steady hands he used to have before he traded them for chaos and the floor.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The name is the lore. The Poop Pride Kimono fighters have transcended embarrassment so completely that they wear the proof. Undefeated.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Crow spirit, long nose, ancient power. The Tengu Mask fighters are wearing something that predates the Dojo — something older that chose to be here.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
