Diary
Masumi Steel used to run his men like a drum kept perfect time, katas at dawn, bows held a beat too long, honor thick as morning fog over the barracks. Then the wars dried up, the sake house opened its doors like an old flirt, and Masumi discovered he could still land a killing blow, just not the kind bushido had in mind, he cracked his own men over dice and pride in front of the whole rowdy room. He grins about it now, tells the story like a highlight reel, struts around calling it "discipline, degen edition," but the grin's got a crack in it wider than the floor he's been chasing all week. Every morning he swears off the cups, swears he'll get the men back in formation, swears today's the day the old Masumi returns, and every night finds him betting his last coin that tomorrow will be different, again. He's never been more miserable, and he'd bet you a drink he can hide it better than the last guy who tried.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The red Oni rages where the blue Oni waits. The Red Oni Tattoo fighters run hot and they are at peace with this.
They called him Steel because nothing moved him — cold face, cold hands, the last man standing while braver fools lost their nerve. In peacetime, steel with nothing to cut just rusts.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The tiger, bound. The Tiger Headband Ruffian fighters contain something predatory with a strip of cloth and consider this sufficient.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
