He grins about it now, tells the story like it's a punchline he wrote on purpose, though everyone at the Dojo knows he replays that mountain in his skull nightly like a degenerate rewatching his worst trade. He'll tell you discipline is for suckers who never touched real silence, then bluff his way through another sake-soaked morning promising he'll meditate again 'for real this time,' arranging his thoughts for exactly forty seconds before some floor-price rumor or a dice game pulls him under. Nothing left to lose, he says, needling the sky like it owes him a rematch, still grinning through the ache of a peak he can't stop climbing in his sleep. Mount Koriyoka took his dreams clean, and Masumi just keeps betting he'll get them back on a bluff.
