Before the Darkness Festival at Kuraiyami, Masumi Steel could sit seiza for an hour without a twitch, a monk practically, all discipline and quiet breath. Then he tried to charm a mamasan under those blacked-out lanterns, whispered some line he thought was smooth, and got an answer sharper than any blade he'd ever swung, and something in him just snapped clean in half. Now he grins like the punchline landed even when it's aimed at his own face, needling every opponent, bluffing every hand, betting the floor out from under himself for the thrill of the fall. He still bows to his old training swords sometimes, tells himself tomorrow's the day he gets serious again, then wanders off to ape into a dice game he can't win with money he doesn't have. Nothing left to lose, he says, laughing, though anyone watching close can see the old samurai flinch every time he says it.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
