One-Eyed Itsuki used to train like the whole world was watching, chasing rank the way a fool apes his last coin into a coin that's already rugged. Then he lost the left eye to something not worth retelling, and somewhere between the stitches and the sake he lost the hunger too, trading katas for lazy afternoons at the Fight Pits fishing shamelessly for compliments after every sloppy bout. He'll tell you, flat and unbothered, that seeing half the world twice as clearly beats seeing all of it in a blur of ambition. His old sensei calls it wasted potential; Itsuki calls it the best exit he never planned, though some mornings the itch for discipline crawls back and he shows up at dawn to drill forms, just late, just once, just enough to remind himself he still can. Mostly he just collects praise like easy yield, spends it before it cools, and sleeps better than every sharp-eyed grinder still starving for a floor price on respect.”
