Up on Misty Mountain the fog rolls thick enough that Itsuki only needs the one good eye anyway, since the other half of the world was never worth looking at twice. He'd gone up there to meditate, to breathe like the old sword masters taught him, but Bob showed up with a joint the size of a wakizashi and Itsuki's discipline got rugged in about four minutes flat. What followed was loud, undignified, and involved him lecturing a mountain goat about floor prices while Bob laughed so hard he nearly rolled off the ridge. Itsuki doesn't remember every word he said that day, only that it was bad, degenerate, unbecoming of a man who once bowed to emperors, and that somehow it knocked something loose in him. Now he tells people the fog didn't just blur the view, it showed him exactly how far he'd fallen, and with his one clear eye he watches that same drop every single day and still can't climb back up it.
