One-Eyed Itsuki used to say a man only needs one good eye if the other twelve are lying anyway, and for a while that half-vision served him fine, right up until he let some floor-price gossip slip in the dirt outside the dojo and watched his own reputation get rugged in real time. He'd meant to sit in seiza that morning and meditate on discipline, on the old bushido code his sensei once beat into him, but somewhere between the first pour of shochu and the third retelling of the rumor he'd aped straight into chaos instead. The dream he'd been quietly building, some clean shot at respect, folded like a bad hand the second the whispers hit the ground and everyone believed the worst version. So now he's retreating into the jungle, one eye scanning the treeline twice as sharp as any two-eyed fool's, muttering that discipline is a chart he keeps meaning to buy the dip on but never does. Unbothered, mostly, he tells the monkeys watching from the canopy that a man who's already lost his depth perception has nothing left to lose but his manners, and even those are on thin ice.
