One-Eyed Itsuki only needs the one eye to see most men coming, but nobody warned him about Fred's snake in the Meiji Jungle, and that thing struck low and mean right through his gi. Two puncture wounds, one ruined shirt, and a slow bleed from both nipples later, he sat by the campfire not cursing the snake but nodding at it, the way a man nods at a lesson he didn't ask for but needed anyway. He used to be the kind of samurai who planned for every blade, every ambush, every drunk gambler with a grudge, and somehow the one thing that got him was a reptile with a grudge of its own and Fred standing there useless with a stick. Discipline, he tells the other fighters now, is knowing your enemy, and humility is finding out your enemy was hiding in a bush the whole time watching you lose a bet on sake you couldn't afford. He still trains every morning, or means to, but half the time he's just pressing cold rags to his chest and laughing at how twice as clear his vision is and twice as useless it was against fangs he never saw.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Unclear until it clears. The Grey Mist backgrounds belong to fighters who operate where others can't see, and use that fog as their advantage.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
