One-Eyed Itsuki lost his left eye to some forgotten war and swore the right one would never miss anything again, which is exactly why it stung so bad watching his coin purse walk off on someone else's legs. He'd cornered Botan in the alley behind the noodle stand over a debt dispute, dropped him clean with one shot the old dojo way, precise, economical, almost polite, and turned around just in time to watch a shadow lift his whole bankroll like it was tipping a waiter. Half his vision may be gone but the half that's left is surgical, and still he never saw the hand coming, which he now considers the funniest and cruelest joke the universe has told him since the wars ended. He tells himself discipline is a currency too, that a real samurai counts breath before coin, and then he spends the next three nights tearing Kyoto apart looking for a thief and a floor price that no longer exists. These days he walks slower, robbed twice over, once of yen and once of the calm he used to wear like armor, muttering that he still sees the world twice as clear, he just apparently can't see two things happening behind him at once.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Every frequency visible. The Rainbow Kimono fighters contain multitudes and decided to wear them all at once rather than choose.
'Itsuki' — a tree, deep roots and one straight trunk. He lost the eye in a story he tells four different ways depending on how much he likes you, and what's left sees more than most manage with two.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Elevated tradition. The High Straw Rice Hat fighters dress high above their own heads — everything they do is reaching upward.
