There was a time Shitless Botan could stare down a blade without his pulse so much as stuttering, a man rumored to have had fear cut out of him on some forgotten battlefield along with whatever else makes men flinch. Now the only legend he builds is at the noodle house on the corner, where he lit up in full view of the broth-slurping regulars and let the whole room watch him become a myth for entirely the wrong reasons. He remembers the tonkotsu going cold, the old chef's eye twitching, and himself floating somewhere above his own bowl, utterly unbothered, as if enlightenment and being extremely aped were the same event wearing different robes. He tells you plainly, with the gallows-calm of a man who has already made peace with his own worst decisions, that he has never once forgiven himself, and he says it the way most people mention the weather. Every morning he vows discipline, a straight back and an empty pipe, and every evening finds him back at that same table, ordering noodles he will not finish, chasing a version of himself that left the building years ago and, frankly, isn't afraid to admit it never checked the floor price before jumping.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
Every cracked card. White is the beginner's belt, and torn is how the crack left it, border and all: a White card is never printed. A repair earns Blue.
'Botan' — a peony, a beautiful flower on a genuinely terrible situation. Somewhere in the wars he saw a thing that removed his fear permanently and never gave it back.
The red Oni shouts first. The Red Oni Kimono fighters wear their temper on the outside, which at least saves everyone the trouble of guessing.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
In motion even when still. The Wavy fighters are always already moving — the hair is just the most visible evidence.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,468 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
