Before Nagoya, Rin was the kind of samurai who checked the perimeter three times before sitting down to eat, a cheerful man in the way that only someone who has planned for every disaster can be cheerful. Then came the night with Haru, a bottle of shochu, and a laugh so sudden and total that it cracked something open in his chest that centuries of discipline had kept sealed, and he has never fully closed it back up. Now he wakes at 4am to check the floor price of a token he does not remember aping into, journals three pages of worst case scenarios before breakfast, and still insists this is what 'truly free' feels like. He tries to meditate like the old masters, tries to sit still with his blade of focus, but his mind keeps drawing maps of exits, escape routes, and rug pull contingencies for a war that ended lifetimes ago. Somewhere between the laughter and the weed he keeps rolling to calm down, Rin lost the plot entirely, and the funniest, saddest part is he is still standing guard, sword drawn, for a battle that will never, ever come.
