Diary
Rin watched the sunrise over Kyoto the way he used to watch for ambushes, jittery, wide-eyed, certain the horizon owed him bad news, and sure enough, mid confession to a fellow degen about his short position, his phone buzzed with the job he no longer had. He'd been oversharing at dawn like it was a tea ceremony of vulnerability, forgetting that vigilance without a war to spend it on just curdles into a man narrating his own disasters before they happen. That night he drew up a seventeen-step self-improvement plan on a napkin, complete with contingency plans for the contingency plans, and by step two, wake at 5am and meditate, he was instead wide awake at 4am spiraling about whether meditating wrong could somehow make things worse. He told himself this was discipline, the old katana-sharp readiness reborn as budgeting spreadsheets and cold showers, but really it was just a man flinching at ghosts, over-preparing for a battlefield that turned out to be his own kitchen table. Still, degen heart intact, he apes into the next plan anyway, because a Dojo fighter without a war will always invent seventeen new ones to almost win.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Lord's garment worn into battle. The Daimyo Warrior Kimono fighters have authority they didn't ask for and intention they haven't announced.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The warrior and the wanderer. Worn by those who are between destinations but never between fights.
