Diary
Rin had rehearsed a hundred exit strategies for a hundred imaginary ambushes, yet the one blade that ever found him arrived while he was mid-lecture, wagging a finger at an enemy Yakuza crew inside a lantern-lit pleasure house, insisting they were standing on the wrong side of an argument about honor. The knife went in almost politely, as if to say his vigilance had clocked out for a snack break at the worst possible moment, and Rin spent the bleeding walk home cataloguing every warning sign he definitely, absolutely should have caught. Since then he has thrown himself into Buddhism with the same white-knuckled dread he once reserved for ambush drills, chanting sutras at 4 a.m. and flinching at the sound of wind chimes he is almost certain are assassins. He keeps a folded escape map tucked inside his prayer beads, sits zazen with one eye cracked toward the door, and insists this counts as inner peace, samurai serenity now running on the jittery fuel of a man who never quite unclenches. Even his monks have started timing his meditation sessions, since Rin's idea of letting go is simply worrying quieter.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Sovereignty in fabric form. The Queeny Chic fighters dress with authority that was never granted by anyone else and therefore can't be revoked.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Royal helmet. The Golden Kabuto fighters wear sovereignty on their head — not claimed, but expressed through every move they make.
The soul of the Dojo. Folded ten thousand times. The blade remembers every holder it has passed through.
