Rin had trained thirty years to read a battlefield, to sense the whistle of an arrow before it left the string, and the wars rewarded that vigilance by simply ending, leaving him a blade with nowhere to point. So he went up Misty Mountain seeking one last skirmish worth his nerves, stumbled instead into a den of fornicating widows, panicked at a screeching monkey he swore was a rogue ninja, and stabbed the poor thing clean through before his brain caught up with his hands. He has not left the Dojo since, insisting the mountain is cursed, the widows are still out there plotting, and the monkey's ghost keeps score against him in a ledger only he can see. Every morning he draws up a new perimeter check, a fresh contingency plan for threats that do not exist, and every morning he fails to leave his mat before noon, discipline slipping through his fingers like sake he swore he would not drink again. He calls it strategy. Everyone else calls it hiding, gently, so he does not spiral into a seventh consecutive worst-case scenario before breakfast.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The red Oni rages where the blue Oni waits. The Red Oni Tattoo fighters run hot and they are at peace with this.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Tied before the fight. The Green Bandana fighters have a ritual of preparation — the bandana is how they mark the transition.
The other fish weapon. The Dead Fish fighters use something that smells like loss as a weapon — opponents are too confused to defend properly.
