Diary
Rin had drawn up seventeen contingency plans before he ever knelt beneath the sakura trees to gamble away his savings, and not a single one accounted for a dice cup to the forearm when the bet went sideways. He'd trained for ambushes, for poison, for the eventual heat-death of the universe, but somehow never for Kenji from three villages over deciding a busted wager was worth breaking bone, and the petals kept falling pink and indifferent while Rin screamed loud enough to scatter crows over Kyoto rooftops. The old discipline in him, the part that once stood watch through freezing nights without a flinch, tried valiantly to reassert itself, insisting he simply ice it, breathe, meditate through the pain like a proper warrior. Instead he spiraled, convinced the break was cursed, that the yen he lost were haunting his humerus specifically, and now he checks his own pulse forty times a day like it might rug him too. The other fighters call him a lunatic behind his back, but Rin's already imagined that conversation eleven different ways and, honestly, braced for worse.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wealth made garment. The Money Kimono fighters wear their wins literally — the fabric is a record, not a boast.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
Dark nature made structural. The Black Oni Horns fighters grew into something specific and let it show at the top.
