Diary
Rin had gone to the onsen the way he did everything, tactically, hoping the steam and a humble little "ah, this old wound from the wars" would net him a compliment or two from the other soaking samurai, but the universe rugged him instead with a rash that bloomed across his ribs like a bad chart. He diagnosed himself with eleven different plagues before dawn, cross-referencing scrolls, old battlefield medic notes, and a suspicious amount of dojo gossip, before landing on the least likely and most annoying answer, that it was just heat rash from sitting in water too long trying to look stoic. Discipline once meant standing sentry through storms without flinching, but now it means Rin refusing to leave the Dojo grounds, stockpiling salves, ointments, and three different kinds of medicinal weed balm just in case the rash is secretly evolving. He still checks the mirror every hour like a man expecting an ambush, muttering about floors dropping out from under his skin, and swears each morning today is the day he finally goes back outside, then doesn't. His vigilance has nowhere left to point but inward, so it points there constantly, loud, itchy, and utterly, hilariously overprepared for a fight that was never coming.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Memento mori made fashionable. The Skull Kimono fighters remember what's at stake and wear the reminder so they never forget.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
Broad shade, broad vision. The Wide Kasa Fisherman fighters cover more ground with their hat than most cover with their plans.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
