Diary
Rin trained in Okinawa the way a man trains for war that never comes, checking exits, counting breaths, mapping every grain of sand for hidden threats, and it was there the scumbags found him. They were degens in gi jackets, dice in one pocket and rolling papers in the other, and somehow their chaos felt safer than his own vigilance, so he let them in. Now the dojo is his whole world, floor mats swept at 4 a.m., candle wax scraped from the shrine, doors triple-checked though there has been no enemy since the wars ended and probably never will be again. He tells himself it is discipline, the old bushido flame kept burning, but really he is just a man who befriended chaos and then panic-bolted the shutters against it. Every night he promises himself he will finally step outside tomorrow, and every morning the promise gets folded neatly into the growing pile of promises he never keeps, right there on the shelf next to his half-finished breathing exercises.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
The world through affection. The Loveheart Shades fighters see everything as worth caring about — and have found this is more effective than the alternative.
In motion even when still. The Wavy fighters are always already moving — the hair is just the most visible evidence.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
