Diary
Stresshead Rin had drilled for a hundred wars that never came, so when the peace finally settled over the land like an insult, he did what any vigilant man with nowhere to put his fear would do: he carved a small arsenal of practice swords from the chopsticks and stray planks behind the noodle house, muttering about ambush routes through the broth steam. He bet every last coin he had that his wooden blades would fetch a fortune from the other regulars, certain some rival clan or bored yakuza cousin would need discreet, splinter-grade weaponry by sundown, and instead he was rugged by a table of drunk gamblers who laughed him out of his own inheritance in under an hour. Now he sits by the noodle stall at 3am, jaw tight, replaying the trade a thousand times, convinced that if he had just sanded the hilts smoother the whole disaster reverses itself. He has sworn, again, to become disciplined: no more impulsive whittling, no more midnight arms deals with strangers who smell like sake and bad intentions, a strict meditation schedule starting tomorrow at dawn, definitely tomorrow. Tonight, though, he is still awake, alert for a battle that will not arrive, guarding a bowl of cold noodles like it might ambush him too.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Kept from the harvest. The Dried Straw fighters dress in what's left after everything useful has been taken — and have discovered this is plenty.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Gold-edged, elevated. The Pompous Glasses fighters have earned the right to look down at something and have chosen to look down at mediocrity.
Color and structure combined. The Orange Bantu Knots fighters make their warmth architectural.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
