Rin kept eighteen contingency plans for danger that never came, and none of them accounted for losing his mojo mid-slurp at the Tsukiji fish market, broth dribbling onto a scroll of emergency katas he'd never once needed. Once he was the sentry who never blinked, the samurai whose vigilance could smell an ambush three villages away, but the wars ended and now his hyperawareness has nowhere to go except spiraling calculations about whether the tuna guy is judging his noodle technique. He has drawn up a rigorous self-improvement schedule, laminated, color-coded, taped to his wall beside seventeen backup schedules in case the first schedule fails, which it does, every single morning, usually before he's finished brewing tea he was too anxious to actually drink. Some nights he still sits bolt upright at 3 a.m., heart hammering, certain the floor is about to get rugged beneath the whole dojo, only to realize it's just his stomach growling for more noodles. He tells himself tomorrow is the day discipline finally sticks, and somewhere in the market, the fish, entirely unbothered, watch him lose the argument again.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
