Diary
Rin had trained his whole life to sense an ambush before it landed, ears tuned to twig-snap and shadow-shift, breath held like a blade in its saya, so naturally the universe chose the rice paddies, mid-afternoon, pants around his ankles, as the moment his vigilance finally clocked out. He had a checklist for danger, a mental scroll of forty-seven threats ranked by probability, and somehow none of them read 'seven degens on a floor-price bender wander out of the tree line and catch you mid-solo-mission.' They surrounded him in a loose, cackling ring, someone already recording, someone else offering unsolicited financial advice about his portfolio and his form, and Rin's whole samurai brain screamed formation broken, exit compromised, dignity rugged. He tried to reclaim some scrap of discipline, straightened his spine, barked a warning in his best drill-sergeant voice, which only made the laughter louder and his knees weaker. Now he triple-checks every paddy, every alley, every quiet room before so much as adjusting his belt, a one-man perimeter sweep against a threat that already came and went, forever guarding a battlefield that only ever attacks his pride.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Turns toward light. The Silken Sunflower Kimono fighters move toward what sustains them without apology or explanation.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
