Diary
Rin had a contingency plan for everything except the one moment that mattered: crouched behind the shoji doors, mid-sabotage against the master who once trained him to read a room before he even entered it, he caught some nameless dojo plague that turned his lungs into a haunted teapot. He swears it was airborne karma, a viral rug pull from the universe itself, and he has since drawn up seventeen recovery charts, three backup charts for the charts, and a laminated schedule that includes fifteen minutes daily just for worrying about the schedule. Somewhere under all that trembling vigilance is the same soldier who used to stand watch all night without blinking, except now the enemy is a cough and the battlefield is his own futon. He tells anyone who'll listen that this is the season he finally gets disciplined, cuts the vape, sleeps on time, meditates like a monk instead of doomscrolling floor prices at 3AM, and every single night he ends up wide awake convinced the ceiling is judging him. Rin will absolutely become a new man, right after he finishes triple-checking that the door is locked, the tea is boiled, and the world hasn't ended while he wasn't looking.
Simple. Carved. Someone made this by hand. The Wooden Loop fighters wear something made, not bought, and consider that a statement worth making.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Traditional footwear made into a statement. The Strap On Geta fighters move in a way that makes noise — deliberate, rhythmic, impossible to miss.
The one the captain trusted with the plan — he mapped every ravine, counted every arrow, rationed rice to the grain so his squad would live. Now he plans everything and controls nothing.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
The Dojo's version of a mohawk. More specific, more named. The Dejen Mohawk fighters chose the Dojo's interpretation of rebellion over the generic one.
Found. Not forged. The Large Branch fighters don't wait for the right weapon — they use what's available and are surprised when this needs explanation.
