Tokuda still tells it like a war chant, loud enough to rattle the sake cups off the shelf: he was up on the dojo roof at dawn, palms together, mouth moving through the old prayer his sensei taught him, when a blade found the gap in his guard and taught him a newer lesson about paying attention. He screams the punchline every time, HE GOT ME MID-OM, as if volume can rewrite the scar, as if shouting is armor he never had to earn. These days his discipline looks like setting an alarm for dawn meditation and instead waking up at noon reeking of weed, staring at a portfolio that got rugged harder than his robes did that morning, and still bellowing his old battle cries at pigeons like they owe him respect. He has not forgiven himself, not for the wound, but for flinching mid-prayer, and some nights he climbs back up to that same roof, lights something questionable, and hollers apologies at a sky that never once asked him to be quiet.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
