THEY SAID MISTY MOUNTAIN WOULD BE A VIBE CHECK, Tokuda roars to no one, to the dojo rafters, to the ghost of the ronin he used to be, and honestly the mountain did not lie, it just took his left nipple as collateral for the lesson. He'd aped into some stranger's whole identity up there, borrowed name, borrowed swagger, borrowed katana grip, and the mountain rugged him for it in the most literal skin-deep way a man can be rugged. HA! HA HA! he bellows at the memory like it's still swinging at him, because if he stops shouting for even a second the silence gets loud enough to remind him he once had discipline, a code, a reason to wake before the sun instead of after the weed wears off. Now he trains the same drill every dawn in the dojo courtyard, sword raised, chest bared like a warning label, swearing this is the day he becomes disciplined again, and every day he loses that fight to a nap, a joint, and one very asymmetrical tan line. He has not left the Dojo since, not out of fear, he insists, voice cracking the rafters, but because somewhere out past that gate is a mountain that still owes him a rematch and a nipple, and Tokuda, gods help him, refuses to go quiet about either.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Still learning. The Student Gi fighters are the most dangerous in the Dojo — they have no habits yet, no fixed patterns, no ceiling.
The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Organization meets chaos. The Yakuza Hooligan fighters have discipline from one tradition and abandon from another, and they've combined them into something entirely their own.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
