Tokuda used to walk into a room like he owned the deed to it, chin high, katana oiled, a war cry loaded behind his teeth for any occasion that required volume. Then came the Darkness Festival, where he got so blackout confident he woke up tangled in the robes of three separate priests, none of whom remembered his name and all of whom looked deeply disappointed in the Buddha's behalf. He tried to shout his way out of the shame, bellowing apologies at temple bells that did not care, scattering incense and dignity in equal measure across the shrine steps. Now he trains at dawn with the discipline of a man rebuilding a bridge from ash, except the bridge keeps collapsing into naps, weed, and the occasional heckled sparring match where his battle cry arrives a full second after he's already lost. Still he refuses to whisper defeat, throwing his voice at tomorrow like it owes him money, certain that better days are one loud, poorly timed shout away.
One tooth. The whole shark is implied. The Shark Tooth fighters don't need to explain what they've overcome — they wear the evidence.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
Still wearing them. The Bloodied Glasses fighters need nothing to be clean to keep seeing clearly.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
