Diary
Tokuda didn't mean to get sentimental at the market in Nagoya, he just wanted grilled squid and maybe a floor sweep on some rugged jpeg, but the memories jumped him anyway, all katanas and honor and a sensei who'd weep if he saw this stall-hopping husk now. Somewhere between the third free sake sample and a stranger's suspicious cough he caught a disease nobody's bothered to name, and instead of whimpering he ROARED at the sky like it owed him a rematch, scattering pigeons and a very startled fishmonger. He swears, hand on chest, voice cracking the wood beams of the stalls, that he can do better, that discipline is coming back any day now, that the old Tokuda is still in there somewhere under the fever and the regret. Then he aped into three more mystery skewers because a warrior needs strength to heal, or so he shouted at a noodle vendor who did not ask. He'll get serious tomorrow. Loudly. Probably while sick again.”
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Lived-in color. The Warm Grey background belongs to fighters who have been through enough that their edges have softened without their core changing.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wealth made garment. The Money Kimono fighters wear their wins literally — the fabric is a record, not a boast.
The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Clean but rough. The White Ruffian fighters look like they could have behaved properly and chose not to. The white makes the choice more visible.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
