TOKUDA ROARED at the frost-bitten alley like it owed him money, mid-slap on Raiku the Stoner, who just grinned through the haze and took the hit like a compliment. In that one glorious, idiotic second of triumph, some nameless rat-thief slid the katana clean off his back, the blade his last tether to the disciplined samurai he used to be, and vanished into the cold like smoke off a joint. Tokuda screamed at the empty street for a full minute, swearing vengeance in a voice built for battlefields and now wasted on stray dogs and a very stoned Raiku. He declared retirement on the spot, loud and dramatic, insisting he was done with that life, done with steel, done with glory, only to spend the next morning
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.

The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
