Diary
Tokuda used to draw steel under lantern light with a monk's stillness, but these days he crouches in the alley behind the noodle stand, whittling broken crate wood into katana that would embarrass a child's toy chest. He screams the old war cries anyway, full volume, at three in the morning, so that pigeons scatter and the noodle guy threatens to rug his tab for good. The discipline routine lasts exactly four minutes each dawn, a hundred practice cuts he swore to complete, before he's shouting about how the wood keeps splintering like his last relationship and his last bag. Somewhere between sobriety and sword-song he lost the plot entirely, but he refuses to whisper his decline, insisting instead that a lunatic with a wooden blade and a battle cry is still, technically, a warrior. Ask him if he's alright and he'll roar that he's never been better, then immediately break another practice sword against a dumpster like it personally disrespected his ancestors.
Sober, unlike the drunk variant. The Lizard fighters have a companion with excellent judgment who never asks for anything and always seems to know when to leave.
Neither dark nor white. The Light Grey background belongs to fighters who operate in the space between certainties and have made it comfortable there.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for what it abandoned. The No Honor Kimono fighters gave up on the codes others follow and found that this freed them completely.
The battle-cry made flesh — his roar once turned breaking lines around. Now he barks the same orders across a crooked gambling table, losing quietly to himself in the loudest way possible.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Aged. Sharp. The Short Spiky Grey fighters have been here long enough for color to leave — and found that what remained is more pointed than before.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
