Young Yuji never got his war, so he built himself little battles instead, and that night at the Edo palace he picked the wrong one: a woman with lantern eyes and a laugh like a dare, while his katana leaned trustingly against the wall behind him. He was three sweet nothings deep into a seduction he'd rehearsed in his head a hundred sleepless nights, chasing some glory the older samurai got to keep and he never got to earn, when he turned around and found only air where steel should've been. Gone, floor swept clean, rugged by someone faster and far less romantic than him. He laughed because what else do you do, sat down right there on the cold palace step, and told himself tomorrow he'd wake at dawn, train hard, get disciplined, be a real warrior again, the same promise he breaks every morning like clockwork. Now he just stares up at a sky that has no wars left to give him and wonders, half amused and half aching, what a kid built for battle is even supposed to become.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
