Diary
Yuji The Wise once kept ledgers of his own conduct the way old masters kept scrolls of the sutras, annotating every failure with the calm of a man who assumed he was above them. Then came the alley, and The English Pilot, and a bottle passed between them like a peace treaty neither man intended to honor, and by dawn Yuji's coin purse was as empty as his composure. He remembers narrating his own ruin in real time, muttering "a wise man would stop now" while pouring the next round, which he later admits is either poetry or proof he is an idiot, possibly both. So he retreats to the jungle, not for enlightenment exactly, more to hide from anyone who watched him get financially rugged by a pilot who cannot even fly anything but a tab. He tells himself the silence out there will restore his discipline, though the flask in his pack suggests his sequel chapter is already writing itself.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Between midday and dusk. The Orange Afternoon fighters are in the middle of something — not finished, not starting, exactly where they need to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Wore everything out. The Dirty Peasant Rags fighters have been in the Dojo so long that newness has become impossible — everything they own carries the evidence.
A fighter first and a thinker second — until the day he laughed with Haru in the streets and simply set the sword down for good. He calls it wisdom; some call it losing his nerve.
Still functional. Functionally broken. The Broken Glasses fighters see a cracked version of reality and have found it more honest than the uncracked one.
Implies infirmity, delivers otherwise. The Wooden Walking Cane fighters move slower than expected and hit harder than prepared for.
