Yuji The Wise once believed his destiny was written in clean brushstrokes, a treatise on discipline waiting to be lived rather than merely read, but fate, ever the unreliable narrator, had other footnotes in mind. Inside the Dojo, at the precise moment his shot at glory presented itself, he was touched inappropriately by circumstance itself, an indignity so absurd he later insisted no historian would believe it without a witness statement and a stiff drink. He tried to argue his case with the measured cadence of a scholar defending a thesis, citing precedent, decorum, the sanctity of ceremony, but the Dojo elders were unmoved by footnotes and promptly escorted him out the front gate. Now he narrates his own exile from a nearby noodle stand, journal in one hand, half a joint in the other, cataloguing his fall from grace as though it were required reading for future generations of degenerate swordsmen. He still practices his stance every morning, if you count leaning against a vending machine while composing paragraphs about honor as practicing, which, being both the author and the subject of this tragedy, he generously does.”
