Yuji The Wise always claimed that valor was forged in discipline, in scripture, in the quiet rigor of the dojo, and then one restless night inside his family's own house in Kanazawa he discovered a different kind of courage entirely, seducing a woman beneath his ancestors' portraits while the incense still burned for their honor. He narrates the memory now like a historian citing a primary source, footnotes and all, though each telling grows a little more triumphant than the tea-stained truth allows. Since that night he has carried himself through town with the strut of a man who conquered a province, when in fact the only thing he truly overthrew was his own better judgment. He still keeps a leather-bound journal meant to track his return to samurai discipline, cold baths, dawn katas, sober vows, but its pages hold mostly elaborate excuses for why today, again, was simply not the day. Yuji The Wise chronicles his own unraveling with the same steady scholar's hand he once reserved for sacred texts, proud, absurd, and painfully aware of exactly how far he has fallen.
