Diary
There was a time Yuuki could be trusted with a blade, a battle line, and the lives of men who called him captain, back when discipline was a robe he wore without thinking twice. Then the wars ended, the sake started, and somewhere along the way he decided the last noble quest left to him was helping the elderly, specifically the elderly he'd invited into his own quarters for reasons even he can no longer reconstruct. Witnesses speak of overturned futons, a rice cooker used as some kind of ceremonial gong, and an old woman escaping through a window with more agility than anyone had accounted for. Yuuki has since filed the entire evening under things that did not happen, the same drawer where he keeps his New Year's resolutions and his last three attempts at sobriety. He still tells himself he is a man of steady nerve and quiet duty, and technically that's true, it's just that the duties now involve fewer honor codes and considerably more property damage.
Whose bones? The fighter who wears them knows. They're not saying. The Finger Bones fighters operate on a level of commitment that most find uncomfortable.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Minimum. Clean. The Fight Gi fighters believe that preparation is visible in the garment — this one says the fighter has done this before.
'Yuuki' means courage, earned the plain way: by stepping forward on the mornings every sane part of him voted to step back. Bravery, for him, was a decision made fresh each day.
The disguise is the identity. The Degen Superhero glasses fighters have a secret — or maybe the secret is that there's no secret and they've always been exactly this.
The Dojo wrote on it. The Degen Graffiti Rice Hat fighters carry the collection's mark on the highest point of their body.
The floor weapon. Everywhere. Common because common is honest — the Rusty Nail fighters know that what you find is often better than what you planned.
