Diary
Yuuki once held a blade with the calm of a man who had already made peace with dying, and somewhere along the way that same calm got repurposed for far stupider battles. The night in question began with a modest plan for discipline, a solo soak at the onsen, cross-legged, breathing steady, mind empty, until a friend aped him into a mushroom tea ceremony that was not on the itinerary. Reality rugged itself politely and left the building, and Yuuki, convinced the steam spirits demanded tribute, offered up his left nipple like a man closing a very unfortunate trade at the floor. He does not remember the details, only waking sore, lighter by one nipple, and strangely at peace, the way old warriors feel after surviving something they will never be able to explain to their sensei. Now he walks through the dojo shirtless when the weather allows, chin high, scar catching the light like a medal, because a true samurai does not run from consequences, he just occasionally hands one over to the mountain.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Royalty that refused the crown. The Purple Night backgrounds belong to fighters who could have been somewhere easier and chose not to be.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
The Dojo itself, worn. Whoever puts on the Degen Dojo Kimono becomes part of the institution — and the institution becomes part of them.
'Yuuki' means courage, earned the plain way: by stepping forward on the mornings every sane part of him voted to step back. Bravery, for him, was a decision made fresh each day.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
Repurposed. Made for the earth, used for the fight. The Farmers Hoe fighters don't distinguish between cultivation and combat.
