Diary
Yuuki once held a blade for lords and causes worth dying for, and now he holds his ground at the local shrine steps, rallying his ragged crew of men through another ill-advised dice tournament like it's the siege of some castle nobody remembers the name of. He calls out formations, barks discipline at drunks who can barely stand, and for one shining moment it works, his men rallying, the coin actually landing his way, honor apparently not dead after all. Then the degens close in, a ring of rowdy strangers smelling blood and weed and easy marks, tightening around him with the slow inevitability of a trap he refuses to call a trap. Any sane warrior would feel dread, but Yuuki, ever the wrong kind of brave, feels his pulse spike with something closer to thrill, the old battle-hum returning dressed in cheap incense smoke and bad odds. He loses the coin, loses the men's respect for exactly four minutes, and gains a strange, steady grin, because apparently the last ember of his samurai courage now only ignites for shrine steps, bad bets, and getting surrounded by fools he probably could have out-fought sober.
Without the gold. The Jesuit Crosses fighters have the same conviction but carry it lighter — the weight is in the belief, not the metal.
Red moon, heightened stakes. The Red High Moon backgrounds mark the moments when everything was on the line and the fighter stayed.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
No clothing needed. The Shirtless Runt fighters removed every layer between themselves and the fight. Maximum exposure. Maximum honesty.
'Yuuki' means courage, earned the plain way: by stepping forward on the mornings every sane part of him voted to step back. Bravery, for him, was a decision made fresh each day.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
A live chicken. As a weapon. The Chicken fighters have committed to an approach that nobody expected and found that unexpectedness is half the battle.
