On sparring day, Yuuki approached his bowl of noodles the way he once approached armed men, with total unblinking resolve, and that resolve was exactly the problem when his elbow found his sheathed katana and the blade snapped clean in half against the table's edge. He stared at the two pieces the way a general stares at a battlefield he definitely lost, then, with the same steady courage he used to bring to charging cavalry, calmly finished the noodles anyway, because a warrior does not let tragedy get between him and broth. Somewhere behind his eyes he could still see the old days, mucking out the stable at dawn, shovel in hand, the simplest job in the world, no opponents, no bets, no blades that betray you mid slurp. He tries, now, to bring back that discipline, sets a rigid schedule for training and drinking and definitely not gambling, and fails at it with the same quiet heroism he once reserved for lost causes. Still, when his sparring partner finally showed up to an empty ready stance and half a sword, Yuuki only shrugged and said the real enemy today had been dinner, and honestly, he'd take that L with his head held high.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
