Diary
Assassin Fuzen had a name that circulated like a debt collection notice, always due, never paid, and for years he preferred it that way. Then came the noodle house, a broth-slick table shared with The English Pilot, six empty cups between them and a seventh being poured, and somewhere past the fourth round Fuzen announced, with the flat certainty of a man closing a ledger, that he would be honorable now. The Pilot laughed the way foreigners laugh at things they do not yet understand are serious, but Fuzen meant it the way he means everything, quietly, patiently, like a blade left resting exactly where it will be needed later. He tells himself the quieter life has already begun, that the old contracts are void, though his hands still fold napkins into the shapes of names he has not spoken aloud in years. Discipline, he has learned, is just another mark that refuses to stay collected, and Fuzen keeps sending the invoice to himself, unpaid, unclosed, patient as ever.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Military patience. The Olive Green fighters do not announce themselves. They wait. Then they move.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Kept from the harvest. The Dried Straw fighters dress in what's left after everything useful has been taken — and have discovered this is plenty.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Intentional declaration. The Mohawk Spike fighters made a choice that announces itself before they speak.
Not metaphorical. Someone's leg bone, spiked. The Spiky Femur fighters have been here long enough that the bones of their enemies are now equipment.
