Once, Fuzen could vanish into any face he chose, a contract wearing a stranger's smile, and the gambling house never learned his real name until the debt collectors did. He played a merchant that night, then a monk, then something in between, until the lie outlived its usefulness and left him broke, exposed, and owed by three separate men who all wanted the same nonexistent person dead. He walked out with nothing but the echo of his own laughter and decided, with the calm of a man closing a ledger, that the next mask he wore would be a real one. So he took up Buddhism, folding his hands where he once folded card hands, chasing stillness the way he used to chase marks. He still meditates every morning, mostly, unless the temple's back room happens to be running dice that night, in which case enlightenment can wait, patient as an unfinished job.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Hidden in plain sight. The Night Forest fighters do most of their work in the dark — not secretively, but quietly. They don't need an audience.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Soft exterior. The Puppy Kimono fighters discovered that disarming presentation is its own strategy — you stop seeing the threat until it's too late.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Focus made visible. The Karate Headband fighters bound their intention around their skull so it couldn't escape during the fight.
Alive. Responsive. The Enchanted Snake fighters have a weapon with its own agenda, and the fighter and the snake have reached an understanding.
