Diary
Assassin Fuzen once slipped through Edo palace shadows for coin owed on a contract three lords and two wars old, and somewhere between the treasury vault and the sake cellar his will simply stopped answering to him. He tells it like patience, the way he tells everything, a slow blink over an unfinished job, but the truth is the gold blurred into the bottle and the bottle blurred into a dice game he is fairly sure he lost on purpose. Now he speaks, low and unhurried, of healthier pleasures, morning stretches, clean broth, maybe herbal weed instead of whatever back-alley resin he apes into at midnight, and the dojo nods along because nobody has the nerve to laugh at a man who kills quietly. Every dawn he sets the same disciplined intention and every dusk finds him three cups deep, blade sheathed, ledger of self-improvement still unsigned, unfinished business piling atop unfinished business. Fuzen only shrugs when caught: some debts you collect, some debts collect you, and this one, like the palace gold, seems to enjoy watching him almost, almost close it.
Collected. Not borrowed. The Foes Teeth fighters carry proof of every fight they've won around their neck and find it a useful conversation starter.
Paper screens at night. The Shoji Night fighters were born in the quiet hours, when the market sleeps and only the committed are still at their screens.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Named for something specific. The Cet Kimono fighters know what they're wearing and why — the rest is for others to figure out.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Ceremony interrupted. The Disheveled Geisha fighters started something formal and ended something entirely different.
Organization-issue. The Yakuza Club fighters have backup in the weight of the weapon itself — it carries institutional authority.
