The contract said Mount Fuji, dusk, no witnesses, and Assassin Fuzen has always believed a contract is a sacred thing even when he is the only one who signed it. Three days without water will make a man philosophical, and by the third day Fuzen had reasoned his way into drinking his own urine with the calm of a monk rationalizing his fifth sake, telling himself hydration is hydration and discipline is discipline even when it tastes like betrayal. It was mid-sip, cup trembling with something like dignity, when the rat made the fatal error of scurrying across his sightline, and Fuzen's blade found it before his brain had even finished the thought, clean, silent, professional, the one true thing that day. He sat afterward on the cold rock studying the small still shape with real satisfaction, the closest he'd felt to his old self in months, a killer's hands still remembering their purpose even as the rest of him had gone to seed. He is knowingly, comically bad at fasting rituals and worse at hydration, but the contract on that rat, he'll tell you with a dry little smile, closed beautifully.
No accessory. Maximum presence. The Shirtless Runt fighters decided that bare skin is its own kind of armor — visible, deliberate, impossible to mistake.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Excess made armor. The Glutton Fight fighters wear their hunger on the outside — not for food, but for everything the Dojo offers.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
