Diary
Assassin Fuzen once kept his blade sheathed the way other men keep promises, unbroken, patient, waiting for the correct moment that never quite arrived. At the Darkness Festival he found Haru beneath the paper lanterns, and what began as a whispered exchange of pleasantries ended as a contract neither of them signed but both of them honored, a taint settling into Fuzen's spirit like ash into silk. The Dojo watched the stain spread and, strangely, nodded with approval, for a man who can be corrupted with such quiet grace has clearly kept some discipline intact, even if it is only the discipline of ruin. Fuzen tells himself he will burn sage, meditate at dawn, close the ledger on his old bad habits, yet each morning finds him instead nursing a warm sake and negotiating with his own conscience like it owes him money. The contract with Haru remains technically unfinished, the way all of Fuzen's business remains unfinished, a debt collected slowly, patiently, with the dry satisfaction of a man who has stopped pretending redemption has a deadline.
Not contacts. Not paint. Something older. The Shaman Eyes fighters see through the collection at a frequency others can't access, and they've been doing it since before the derug.
Bright but not loud. The Teal Daytime fighters are the ones you underestimate because they don't announce their arrival.
The foundation. The crowd. The 2,426 who showed up and kept showing up. Degens are what the Dojo is built from — not the rare exceptions, but the persistent presence.
Grew things before they fought things. The Farmer clothing is the clearest record of what a fighter was before the Dojo changed them.
'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Traditional, ornamented. The Shoji Tassel Glasses fighters dress their perception in ceremony — seeing is a ritual for them, not a reflex.
Named for sensation. The Splitting Axe Ache fighters' hair is named for how their opponents feel after they're done.
The poisonous pufferfish as a weapon. The Frightened Fugu fighters chose something lethal that looks absurd — and find that this is the most accurate description of themselves.
