In the shaman's lair, smoke curling like an invoice nobody wants to pay, Assassin Fuzen sat across from Goro and let death sit down at the table too, uninvited, sipping from his cup like it had been staked a seat. He did not flinch when the shaman's eyes rolled white and the walls hummed with something older than yen, he just kept chewing, patient as a debt collector who knows the mark can't run forever. That night he swore off the blade and swore into the sutra, told the monks he'd found enlightenment, told himself the same lie every morning like a floor price he refuses to accept has rugged. Now he meditates for four minutes before the itch drags him back to the felt tables and the shaman's bad incense, robes still smelling faintly of sake and unfinished contracts. Buddhism, he says, is a long game, longer than any hit he's ever taken, and he intends to collect on it eventually, whether this lifetime or the next.
Decorative. Traditional. The Tassel fighters know that ornament and function are not opposites — presentation is part of performance.
The hour when most give up. The Blue Evening fighters are still at their desk, still watching the chart, still holding.

'Fuzen' means incompleteness, a joke at his own expense before it was a name. The blade sent for the jobs that had to be certain — left with one last name on his list when the wars ended.
Clear eyes. No filter. The unshielded gaze that sees things as they are — not as they're presented or sold.
Named for an incident. The Sushi Fight fighters have a story about how they got this hairstyle. They don't tell the story. The hair does.
The soul of the Dojo. Folded ten thousand times. The blade remembers every holder it has passed through.
